Little Island
@Pier55 - Hudson River Park
Little Island @Pier55, an island oasis in the Hudson River just west of Manhattan, is garnering acclaim as a unique arts venue and green retreat from the city's hustle and bustle.
Amidst over 390 species of flowers, trees, and shrubs, Evoke Collaborative designed the lighting for its performance spaces.
Created by Heatherwick Studio and the landscape architecture firm MNLA, this 2.4-acre artificial island park, funded by the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation, integrates performing arts into its public park experience. The park features "The Amph," a 687-seat amphitheater with stunning Hudson River views, and "The Glade," a smaller stage designed for diverse programming.
Evoke collaborated closely with the Little Island team to develop two versatile and adaptable lighting designs for these venues. Since its opening, the park has received enthusiastic praise from both New Yorkers and visitors. It offers a range of diverse programming, much of it free, including performances by local artists, headliners, and genre-specific weeklong festivals.
